Abstract
Indonesia, as a unitary state, showcases diversity in language, food, traditional clothing, and cultural arts. One area rich in cultural arts is Gresik, a regency in East Java Province. However, traditional culture in Gresik tends to be forgotten amid the advancement of the times and globalization. The lack of knowledge about local cultural arts and the absence of facilities to accommodate and support cultural development are factors threatening the sustainability of Gresik's culture. In response, the government, through its Strategic Plan and Regional Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD), has launched a program to establish a cultural center in Gresik Regency. In line with the background and issue at hand, a cultural center is seen as a fitting solution. In designing the cultural center in Gresik Regency, an analysis of facts, issues, and objectives related to the project was conducted. As a result, the theme "Lentera Budaya Gresik" (Cultural Lantern of Gresik) was adopted, symbolizing that the building would illuminate Gresik's culture by becoming a hub for cultural activities. Gresik itself does not have a distinctive architectural style, but there are several traditional buildings that can be referenced, such as the Sunan Giri Mosque. The design approach used is Neo-Vernacular architecture, which combines modern and traditional aspects to reflect Gresik's cultural identity in the building's design. To support this, the method applied is the metaphor method, where the forms and values of Gresik's traditional culture and buildings are transformed into the building's appearance and shape.
