Abstract
The evolution of urban lifestyles indicates a significant shift towards commercial spaces that function not merely as shopping venues, but also as hubs for recreation and social interaction offering distinct spatial experiences. This phenomenon is evident in the growing demand for green open spaces, alfresco dining, and open-air commercial centers. The Cibubur area in Bogor, which is experiencing rapid residential growth, requires a lifestyle center capable of seamlessly integrating commercial facilities with green public spaces. A biophilic architectural approach is applied in this design to address these needs through design patterns that emphasize the connection between humans and nature. The result of this design is an open-air lifestyle center that integrates natural elements—both directly and indirectly—into its commercial spaces. The implementation of the biophilic approach is manifested through the incorporation of water features and vegetation landscapes in the main areas, the optimization of natural ventilation and dynamic lighting in pedestrian corridors, and the use of nature-inspired materials, such as wood, for facades and shading elements. Furthermore, the building masses are configured in a dispersed layout to create a pedestrian spatial experience that harmonizes with the open landscape. By providing an outdoor spatial experience that engages auditory, visual, and circulatory senses through a sequential progression and a profound connection to nature, this lifestyle center serves not only as a commercial facility but also as a healthier recreational destination that enhances the community's quality of life while being adaptive to the tropical climate of the Bogor metropolitan area.
