Abstract
Students living away from home often face challenges in managing their personal finances because they are far from family supervision and must live independently. The consumption decisions of students living away from home can be influenced by various factors, such as internal factors, namely financial attitudes and self-concept, while external factors include lifestyle. The purpose of this study is to analyse how lifestyle mediates financial attitudes and self-concept towards consumptive behaviour. This study employs a quantitative approach using SmartPLS 4 software. The population in this study consists of out-of-town students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UPN Veteran East Java. The sampling method used is non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling approach, involving 114 out-of-town students residing on campus, either in dormitories, rented accommodations, or living with family. The data used were primary data collected through a questionnaire. The results showed that financial attitudes and self-concept influence consumer behaviour, financial attitudes and self-concept influence lifestyle, lifestyle influences consumer behaviour, and lifestyle can mediate the influence of financial attitudes and self-concept on consumer behaviour. Based on these results, migrant students can improve their financial attitudes, self-concept, and lifestyle to manage their finances effectively, thereby avoiding consumerist behaviour.
