Abstract

Films cannot be separated from the interests around them. Films can be a reflection of people's lives. The Barbie film is a film that tells the story of Barbie as a woman in facing the realities of life in the real world and her struggle against patriarchy and masculinity, with a touch of feminism and comedy. The aim of the research is to determine the reception of female workers towards feminism in the Barbie film. This research uses qualitative research methods using reception analysis from Stuart Hall. Reception analysis will focus on the meeting between the text and the reader or in other words the media and the audience. Reception analysis views the audience as actively creating meaning, not just as consumers of media content. The aim of this research is to determine the audience's position according to Stuart Hall's three reading positions regarding feminism as constructed in the Barbie film. Based on the research that has been conducted, it can be concluded that the reception of informants can be grouped into dominant and negotiating hegemonic positions. Female workers' reception of feminism in the film Barbie is in accordance with the Marxist concept of feminism, which is a form of struggle for women to be able to work in the public sphere. Female workers reflect feminism in the Barbie film as a form of gender equality, freedom, recognition and the ability to compete with men. Keywords : Reception Analysis, Feminism, Barbie Movie
