Abstract
The social media platform TikTok has become a space for users not only to enjoy music but also to create and share content by interpreting the meaning of a song. This study aims to examine the proliferation of the song “Mata Air” by Hindia (feat. Natasha Udu) on TikTok, as well as users’ interpretations of the song. This study employs a qualitative approach using the netnography method, involving the observation of six TikTok videos and interviews with three informants. The analysis draws on Henry Jenkins’ theory of participatory culture to examine user engagement in the processes of content creation, interpretation, and dissemination. The results show that the song “Mata Air” is not only used as background audio but also serves as a medium for conveying personal experiences, self-reflection, motivation, and creative expression. The song’s proliferation occurs through user participation in content creation, the use of hashtags, and digital interactions that expand the song’s reach on TikTok.
