Abstract

This report details the experience of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Internship Program under the independent internship scheme, which was conducted at PT. Warna Warni Media, a leading advertising company in Surabaya, East Java, from February 10 to June 30, 2025. The program aims to equip students with practical experience and prepare them to face the challenges of the professional world, particularly in the field of interior design. PT. Warna Warni Media is a leading advertising company in Indonesia known as a pioneer in digital out-of-home advertising and for its innovations in commercial interior design. PT. Warna Warni Media was selected as a strategic partner due to its solid reputation and experience dating back to 1975, not only in outdoor and indoor media advertising but also in providing comprehensive design services. During the internship, the author gained significant benefits, including enhanced skills in room layout analysis, the creation of technical drawings (2D and 3D), interior design visualization, as well as hands-on experience in conducting site surveys and completing real-world projects such as apartment designs, pedestrian overpasses (JPO), police stations, and bus stops—all of which enriched the author’s portfolio. With a total design area of 800 square meters, the author has been involved in a wide variety of real-world projects. These include interior designs for various apartment units (Linden, BeSS Mansion, and Praxis) in different styles; an innovative design for the Siola pedestrian overpass that serves as a communal space; two alternative designs for bus stops; an interior design for a police station; and two design concepts for coffee corners. In addition to these design projects, the author also conducted site visits to project locations such as the pedestrian overpass, apartment complexes, and a furniture warehouse, and assisted in marking the coordinate points for PT. Warna Warni Media’s billboards for outdoor media. This experience was enriched by sharing sessions with the Project in Charge (PIC) and senior designers, who guided the author in using essential design applications such as Enscape and Adobe Illustrator. Although I faced technical challenges (mastering complex software), non-technical challenges (rapid project dynamics), limited internet access, and accessibility issues at the internship site, these challenges actually became valuable opportunities to learn how to adapt to the work environment, improve technical skills, and develop professionalism in a real-world workplace setting.
