Abstract

This study aims to determine how power is represented in the video clips Republik Fufufafa, Bangun Orang Waras, Menteri Durmagati. This research was conducted because it is based on the socio-political dynamics of Indonesia in recent years showing increasingly complex conditions, marked by a decline in the democracy index in the aspects of freedom and equality, the controversy over Constitutional Court Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 which gave rise to accusations of conflict of interest, as well as various structural issues such as unemployment, economic inequality, and weak law enforcement. These conditions have encouraged the emergence of various expressions of public criticism, one of which is through popular cultural products in the form of music. Songs themed criticism of the government, such as Republik Fufufafa by Slank, Bangun Orang Waras by Methosa, and Menteri Durmagati by Kajawi, present as a creative response to public anxiety about the practice of power that is considered unfair and non-transparent. This study aims to analyze and understand how the representation of power is constructed in the three video clips. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a critical paradigm and Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis as an analytical tool, which includes three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. Data was collected through literature review, documentation, and in-depth observation of the lyrics and visual elements of the video clips. This study found that the three video clips construct representations of power through three main themes: state chaos resulting from deviant practices of power, the arbitrariness of rulers achieved through legal manipulation and nepotism, and the people as victims who bear the impact of corruption in various sectors, from food and education to employment and infrastructure.
