Abstract
Indonesia is one of the world’s major cocoa-producing countries; however, the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa bean exports in the international market still faces various challenges, such as declining productivity, inconsistent product quality, and competition from major exporting countries such as Ivory Coast and Ecuador. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa bean exports, examine Indonesia’s ability to maintain its export market share in the international market, and formulate strategies to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa bean exports. The research method used is a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary data from 2014–2024 obtained from the International Trade Centre (ITC), the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO). Competitiveness analysis was conducted using the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamics (EPD), and Market Share Analysis (MSA) methods. The results show that the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa bean exports fluctuated during the study period. The RCA results indicate that Indonesia still possessed a comparative advantage, although it declined in recent years due to decreasing productivity and export quality. The EPD analysis shows that the position of Indonesian cocoa bean exports shifted across several quadrants, reflecting unstable competitiveness dynamics. Meanwhile, the MSA results indicate that Indonesia’s cocoa bean export market share tended to decline compared to major competitor countries such as Ecuador and Ivory Coast. Keywords: competitiveness, export, cocoa beans, RCA, EPD, MSA.
