Abstract
The frugal living lifestyle has been widely adopted by Generation Z as a form of prudent and efficient financial management in response to various economic challenges. As a mass media platform, film also represents this concept through scenes depicting frugal practices in everyday life. The film Keluarga Super Irit has generated both support and criticism due to its portrayal of frugal living through unique and even extreme family practices. Therefore, this study aims to analyze Generation Z's reception of the representation of frugal living portrayed in the film. This research employed a qualitative method using Stuart Hall’s reception analysis approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and a literature review. The findings indicate that Keluarga Super Irit represents frugal living through various cost-saving practices in household financial management. Audience reception was categorized into three decoding positions: the dominant-hegemonic position, represented by Informants 4, 5, and 7; the negotiated position, represented by Informant 8; and the oppositional position, represented by Informants 1, 2, 3, and 6. Differences in audience reception were influenced by the informants' backgrounds, personal values, and life experiences. Keywords: Keluarga Super Irit Film, Frugal Living, Reception Analysis
