Abstract
This research is motivated by the importance of developing national defense character in students amidst the development of globalization that influences the mindset, attitude, behavior, and appearance of the nation's future generation. Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” East Java as a university that has an identity as a national defense campus has a strategic role in shaping students who are not only academically superior, but also have characters that reflect the national values of national defense. This study aims to determine the strategy of UPN “Veteran” East Java in realizing the appearance of students with national defense character. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The focus of this study is on the stages of the strategy which include strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation. The results show that the strategy of UPN “Veteran” East Java is running quite well covering 3 stages. Student appearance is also not only understood as a physical aspect, but also as a reflection of compliance with rules, discipline, and identity in the institution.
