Abstract
In writing this thesis, the author wants to examine the polemic that occurs due to consumers conveying their criticism to business actors. This review practice has caused debate among the public, because some business actors feel that this review activity actually tarnishes the good name of business actors. This study aims to analyze the role of reviews as a medium for expressing consumer opinions and complaints, as well as to examine relevant restrictions in providing constructive reviews of goods or services on social media platforms, and to determine the legal protection that can be provided to consumers who participate in providing reviews of goods or services on social media. This study uses a normative legal method with a conceptual and legislative approach, and utilizes relevant primary, secondary, and non-legal legal materials, such as literature and related laws and regulations. The results of this study indicate that legal protection for consumers in freedom of expression when providing honest reviews of services on social media is part of human rights, which are protected by Article 4 letter (d) of Law No. 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and Law Number 39 concerning Human Rights. However, consumers must adhere to certain boundaries, including business ethics, ethical standards, and applicable legal norms, when expressing criticism.
