Abstract

The food that is often consumed in elementary school children has been influenced by modern lifestyles. Practical food is easy to obtain to be one of the foods that are often consumed, because it has a more attractive taste. However, consuming fast or instant food excessively will have a negative impact on health, such as obesity, indigestion, and lack of balanced nutritional intake. Because of the lack of learning media that can attract children at the age of 9-12 years and still do not understand the dangers of instant food well. The purpose of this design aims to create an interactive picture book about the dangers of instant food for children aged 9-12 years as an interactive educational and learning medium. This design is covered with observations, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. The visual concept of the design uses brightly colored illustrations, child-friendly characters, and pop-up and lift the flap elements to increase children's interest in reading. In the design stage, data collection is carried out by interviews with elementary school teachers, nutritionists, illustrators, Junior Art Directors, after which the data obtained is used to find the basis for designing a visual concept, illustration style, typography color, and layout of the book content so that the information obtained is conveyed effectively and easily understood. The results of the design are in the form of an interactive picture book about the dangers of instant food for children aged 9-12 years old which contains information about the types of instant food, starting from the unhealthy impact on health, and teaches to apply a healthy diet from an early age. In addition to interactive books as the main media, supporting media are also designed to help promote books such as stickers, notebooks, lunch boxes, drinking places, clothes, totebags and exhibition booths to support the message delivery of the designed book. It is hoped that this design can increase children's understanding and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and reducing the consumption of instant food.
