Abstract

The design of the visual book “No Time For Love” is motivated by the lack of graffiti documentation media that not only presents visual works but also conveys narratives, creative processes, and personal values of a graffiti writer. Existing graffiti documentation in Surabaya tends to focus solely on visual aspects without strong conceptual design and storytelling. Therefore, this project aims to create a visual book that functions as both an archival medium and a reference for graffiti writers and the general public. The method used in this design is Design Thinking, which includes the stages of empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and design testing. In addition, an autoethnographic approach is applied to present the personal experiences of the author as a graffiti writer in an authentic and reflective narrative form. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, documentation, literature studies, and questionnaires to support a comprehensive design process. The result of this project is a visual book that combines photography, illustration, typography, and structured layout to present the journey and works of Kadilsaster. This book functions not only as a documentation medium but also as a visual communication medium that conveys messages, emotions, and the identity of a graffiti writer to the audience. The visual approach strengthens the character of the works, creating a more engaging and immersive reading experience. In conclusion, this visual book demonstrates that it can serve as an effective medium for archiving and communicating graffiti works in a more in-depth manner. By integrating visual elements and narrative, this book is expected to become a reference for graffiti writers in documenting their works more systematically, as well as introducing graffiti culture to the wider public through a more educational and aesthetic approach.
