Abstract
According to data from the Kaggle website, sales of sports video games saw a significant decline of 42.47% in 2016. This study aims to explore the data and identify the causes of the decline in sales of sports video games in 2016. The method used is Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), which involves the following stages: understanding the business problem, Root Cause Analysis, data cleaning, data analysis using SQL queries, and generating insights and recommendations. The research results indicate that the sales decline was influenced by three main factors: a 18.64% decrease in the number of products, product quality failing to meet expectations with an average critic score of 6.12 and an average user score of 6.10, and a decline in sales on the best-selling platforms such as the Wii, despite this platform recording the highest total sales for the sports genre at 286.54 units globally. Strategic recommendations include improving product quality through innovation, promoting on potential platforms and in potential regions, and developing features and campaigns relevant to market trends. This analysis is expected to support strategic decision-making in the video game industry.
