Abstract
This study analyzes the representation of women as caregivers in the film Sore: Wife from the Future directed by Yandy Laurens, released in 2025. Employing Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, the research examines three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The film depicts Sore, a wife from the future who time travels to save her marriage with Jonathan. Sore is portrayed attempting to change her husband's bad habits through intensive caregiving and emotional support. Data was collected using documentation techniques, analyzing 18 key scenes selected based on thematic relevance. Visual elements such as lighting, framing, dialogue, and narrative symbolism served as the focus of analysis. At the denotative level, concrete activities like cooking and caregiving are visible. Connotation constructs meanings of sacrifice and unconditional patience, while myth naturalizes women's roles as family saviors willing to sacrifice personal identity for domestic harmony. Findings reveal that the film represents caregivers through symbols of sacrifice and dedication that reinforce traditional gender stereotypes while obscuring emotional exploitation and power imbalances. This research contributes to Indonesian film semiotics studies and gender scholarship by explaining how visual media constructs patriarchal ideology through romantic narratives. The analysis results are relevant for media policymakers, gender activists, and communication scholars to understand the impact of visual representation on public perceptions of women's roles in modern Indonesian society Future Keywords: Representation, Care giver, Semiotics, Gender, The Film Sore: Wife From The Future
