Abstract
The role of modern women today is not the same as the role of women in the old days. However, the stereotype of career women is still a topic of debate among the public. There are pros and cons in the community and on social media about who is superior between housewives and career women. Career women can help financially with the family, which has a positive impact on household needs by improving the family's economic needs and maintaining welfare. The American Psychological Association reported statistics on women and stress, with 33% of working women believing that the pressures of their jobs have an impact on their emotional, mental, and physical health, causing conflict within the family. This means that career women bear the consequences of taking on two roles at the same time, which can lead to a conflict between career and family, causing women to carry a double burden. The film “Mendua” is a series broadcast on the Over the Top platform Disney Plus Hotstar, presenting the character of Doctor Sekar as a career woman who plays a dual role. This study uses a qualitative method of in-depth interviews with seven female informants and Stuart Hall's Encoding-Decoding analysis. This study provides results on women's perceptions of career women in households with five people in a position of hegemonic dominance, two in a position of negotiation, and none in a position of opposition.
