Abstract

This study analyzes the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) strategy of Chinese electric vehicle (EV) company BYD in Thailand's EV industry. The global electric vehicle sector is undergoing significant shifts, driven by sustainability and technological advancements, making this case study relevant in understanding cross-border investment dynamics. This study uses Dunning's eclectic paradigm as a theoretical framework to examine the key driving factors behind BYD's decision: ownership advantages, internalization advantages, and location advantages. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with secondary data collected from official government reports, industry publications, company data, and academic literature. Key findings indicate that BYD's strategy is driven by a combination of these three advantages, with a focus on access to a rapidly growing market, supportive Thai government policies, and the company's vertical supply chain integration. Keywords: Market seeking, Eclectic Paradigm, Foreign Direct Investment, BYD, Thailand
