Abstract
Football is the most popular sport in the world, including in Indonesia. In the country, numerous football clubs participate in national competitions, one of which is Persebaya Surabaya. This club has a fanatical supporter base known as "Bonek." The Bonek supporters demonstrate their loyalty by attending matches at the stadium, watching games on television, and purchasing team merchandise. Their wholehearted support reflects a deep sense of fanatism within them.Although not all Bonek members can attend matches in person, the social media platform X has become a primary alternative for expressing their support. One of the most active hubs for these supporters is the account @green_nord27, managed by the Green Nord 27 community and recognized as the largest Persebaya fanbase on the platform.This study aims to explore the forms of fanatical expression and the factors that contribute to it on social media platform X, analyzed through the lens of Communication Studies. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, grounded in theories of social identity, symbolic interactionism, and the concept of fanaticism. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation involving Persebaya supporters who follow the @green_nord27 account and actively keep up with the team’s developments.The findings reveal that fanatism on social media is reflected through various activities, such as taking the time to watch matches, following the official accounts of the club and its players, posting match results, and consistently staying updated on Persebaya Surabaya’s latest news.
