Abstract

The number of traffic accidents in the city of Surabaya in the period 2020 to 2022 tends to increase. Human factors account for the largest percentage of causes of traffic accidents. Some of the causes are impaired driver alertness and stress when driving due to busy road conditions. Listening to music is a distraction while driving because the tempo of the music can affect the driver's cognitive abilities. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of music tempo and traffic density on driver performance. The level of stress on driver performance will be measured through the results of changes in sweat gland activity using the galvanic skin response method. The data collection process was carried out through experiments using a driving simulator. Data processing was carried out using a two-way ANOVA test. The results showed that music tempo and traffic density did not have a significant effect on driver stress levels and driver performance. There are several influencing factors such as driving habits, different levels of driver alertness and concentration, as well as mastery of games and driver simulators. In the future, research can be carried out using other methods to find out other factors that can interfere with driver performance.
