Abstract
In realizing the ideals of the nation, the synergy of the younger generation is needed. in preparation, character education is needed to grow a generation that is ethical and adopts the noble values of the nation. These noble values can be found in the cultural heritage of the ancestors. One of them is tembang macapat. tembang is a traditional Javanese poem that contains good values and moral practices. The utilization of tembang macapat can be maximized. It is not limited to a sub chapter in the local content subject of Javanese language, but can also be the basis or guideline for character education for elementary school children. To bridge the purpose and utilization of local culture, design is done with adaptation techniques. Tembang macapat in the form of lyrics and songs is adapted into an interactive illustration book. The value contained in the tembang macapat is then adopted and made into an illustrated story script. Interactive features are added to encourage children's literacy skills with the Javanese language, and build a fun learning atmosphere. With this, it is expected that the design of interactive illustration books can be a companion book in learning Javanese and new media that can be utilized as a means of instilling morals and manners.
