Abstract
Hipdut music is a fusion of hip-hop and dangdut that has grown rapidly through the TikTok social media platform. This development has made hipdut music a form of digital content with distinctive lyrical characteristics reflected in its use of language, themes, and expressive styles. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of hipdut song lyrics on TikTok during the 2024–2026 period based on the elements of language, theme, and expressive style. This study employed a quantitative approach using the content analysis method. The research objects consisted of 50 original hipdut song lyrics selected as the research population based on predetermined criteria, namely songs that were used as TikTok sounds, classified as original hipdut songs, and contained complete lyrics. All members of the population were included as the research sample using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through documentation using a coding sheet as the research instrument, which was analyzed based on three main categories: language, theme, and expressive style. The reliability of the coding process was tested using Holsti's formula involving two coders and produced a reliability coefficient above 0.70, indicating that the instrument was reliable. The findings reveal that the language category was dominated by Indonesian, accounting for 691 units (69.59%), the theme category was dominated by romantic themes with 671 units (67.57%), and the expressive style category was dominated by romantic expression with 306 units (30.82%). These findings indicate that hipdut song lyrics predominantly use the Indonesian language, emphasize romantic themes, and employ romantic expressive styles as their dominant characteristics. Therefore, hipdut music functions not only as a form of entertainment but also as a communication medium that conveys messages through lyrical characteristics that have evolved within the digital media ecosystem, particularly on the TikTok platform.
