Abstract
Art is a work that cannot be separated from the elements of human life. Art is an aspect that will continue to develop as the times progress. One of the arts that continues to develop following the times is contemporary art. Contemporary art has developed in Indonesia, especially in big cities such as Surabaya, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Jakarta. The development of contemporary art in Surabaya is still not quite the same as other big cities. However, this does not mean that there is no contemporary art development in Surabaya. In addition, the development of the art community is also increasing every year. However, this is not matched by the provision of facilities to accommodate these art activities. As an effort to improve the development of contemporary art in Surabaya, it is necessary to add facilities that can accommodate and develop contemporary art activities in Surabaya. This design concept refers to the theme “Expression of Contemporary” with a Contemporary Architecture approach and uses the intangible metaphor method to achieve a building design that is in accordance with the gallery function. The use of the Contemporary Architecture approach is intended to make the building have compatibility with the art displayed in it and make the building present so that it has a form that is also attractive to the people of Surabaya. Through this design, it is hoped that contemporary art can be well developed, can accommodate art activities, and become a place for artists to gather, work, and can educate art to the public.
