Abstract

Caprolactam Plant from Cyclohexanone Oxime and Sulfuric Acid with Beckmann Rearrangement Process Capacity 95,000 Ton/Year will be established in Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, Jl. Raya Jakarta-Serang KM. 68 Cikande, Nambo Ilir, Kec. Kibin, Serang Regency, Banten 42186. This Caprolactam plant uses a continuous operating system for 24 hours a day with 330 working days and 220 employees. This plant uses raw materials Cyclohexanone Oxime obtained from Tercents Enterprise LLP located in Chaanxi, China, Sulfuric Acid obtained from PT Indonesian Acid Industry located in Cakung, Ammonium Hydroxide obtained from PT Pupuk Kujang Cikampek located in Karawang, and Toluene obtained from PT Stryrindo Mono Indonesia located in Serang. This caprolactam can be used as raw material for Nylon-6, Nylon filament yarn, nylon-6 resin, polyurethane, and caproic amino acid. While from this process, a by-product will be produced, namely ammonium sulfate which can be used as an agricultural fertilizer (fertillizer), as a buffer in chemical solutions, textile dyes, and so on. The production process used in this plant is the Beckmann Rearrangement process. There are several stages, the first is the Beckmann Rearrangement reaction between cyclohexanone oxime and sulfuric acid catalyst using a stirred tank flow reactor at 115°C and 2 atm pressure which will produce caprolactam. After that, caprolactam which still contains sulfuric acid will be neutralized using a stirred tank flow reactor at 80°C and 1 atm pressure which will produce caprolactam and ammonium sulfate by-product.
