Abstract

The quality of black tea production at PTPN I Sirah Kencong Blitar Factory has the potential to deviate from the standards set by the company, which can cause production defects. The purpose of this study is to analyze the defect rate of CTC black tea products and to determine proposed improvement actions for black tea production. This research was conducted using the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) approach to analyze defects in black tea products obtained from PTPN I Sirah Kencong Blitar Factory, as well as using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) approach to determine proposed corrective actions that can be implemented by PTPN I Sirah Kencong Blitar Factory. Based on the Statistical Quality Control method, size nonconformity was the highest defect rate at 43.33%. Meanwhile, according to the analysis using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis method, the main cause of product defects was an suboptimal drying process with a Risk Priority Number (RPN) value of 623. Proposed improvements include routine maintenance, periodic temperature calibration, and enhancing operator capacity in regulating drying temperature and duration according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
