Abstract
As an effort to improve the quality of literacy in fostering interest in reading in the people of Surabaya, the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) has its own ways, one of which is by establishing a Community Reading Center (TBM). The TBM of Semolowaru Village is the TBM that has the most achievements compared to other TBMs. However, it is constrained by the fact that there are mothers in the Semolowaru Village who cannot read and write. This study aims to describe the optimization of Community Reading Gardens (TBM) in Semolowaru Village, Sukolilo District, Surabaya City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative which produces data in the form of written words from interviews, observations and documentation. The results showed that the optimization of Semolowaru Waru based on the aspect of collection development showed that TBM Semelowaru was not complacent about the existing book collection and was always developing the book collection at TBM. Then aspects of TBM Semolowaru librarian development take place optimally through the implementation of management and service actions to increase community literacy. Furthermore, in the aspect of facility development, it shows that TBM Semolowaru officers and librarians are adapted to the needs of the community/users. In the aspect of developing information technology, TBM Semolowaru has presented a collection of digital books or e-books with barcodes since 2015. There are also social media such as Facebook, blogspot, and others as well as an SMS center to make it easier for the public/users to get information about the latest developments and news as well as provide advice in the development and improvement of services. Finally, the aspect of service development is carried out in collaboration with many parties.
