Abstract
News produced by Kompas.com through the website about a political campaign being carried out by the PDIP party at the location of a natural disaster, but the news was misleading when it was released. The purpose of this study is to find out the audience's reception of the news about Puan Maharani's campaign at the Semeru disaster site on Kompas.com media. In this study, researchers used descriptive qualitative research methods, applying the constructivism paradigm with Stuart Hall's reception analysis approach. The research was carried out in the city of Surabaya, and the collection of informants used purposive sampling. Data collection techniques apply interviews, observation, and documentation. For data analysis using Stuart Hall's Encoding-Decoding theory, which explains three positions of meaning, namely dominant, negotiation, and opposition. The results of the study show that the majority of audiences in interpreting messages in political campaign news are mostly in negotiating positions. This position indicates that the audience may receive the contents of the message in the news, but they do not fully accept it, this is based on the experience and insight they have. The media can create meaning in the contents of the message, but audiences have their own level of interpretation of the message conveyed. Keywords: Reporting, Audience, Reception Analysis
