Abstract
The punk subculture has been born and developed in the Surabaya community. Without realizing it, this subculture has blended in and become a new one in the span more than two decades. Some Surabaya people think that this subculture is only limited to music genres, performances and behaviors that go against other norms. But this subculture was originally born and developed from creative activities and changes to the mindset of the “Hero City“ youth, which emerged at the early days as a search of self identity and proof of existence. The lack of information and documentation related to the history of the punk subculture in Surabaya which is one of the main causes that formed a certain stigma and public opinion towards this subculture. Hence a media is needed that provides information and a valid historical background to outline how the punk subculture has developed over time through the activists of the punk scene itself. One medium to provide historical information related to the punk subculture in Surabaya are documentary videos involving scene activists who are in direct contact with the origin of the subculture and know how it evolved. The design of the documentary video is carried out in two stages, namely, the preparation and creation stages. The preparation stage consists of data collection and data analysis. The creation stage consists of pre-production and post-production. Keywords : Subculture, History, Punk
