Abstract

Currently, social media has such a big role in various fields. The Surabaya City Transportation Service utilizes social media, namely Instagram as a place to share related informationa new bus from the Surabaya City Transportation Agency. With this Instagram account, it is hoped that the public, especially Instagram users from inside or outside the city of Surabaya, are more familiar with public transportation facilities that have been facilitated by the Surabaya City Transportation Service. The aim of this research isto find out, understand and explain in detail about the use of Instagram social media as city branding for the Surabaya City Transportation Service (a qualitative descriptive study on the use of Instagram @suroboyobus social media as city branding by the Surabaya City Transportation Service).This research is a qualitative research with research subjects in the form of:several people related to the Instagram @suroboyobus social media account such as the Public Relations of the Surabaya City Transportation Service, the admin of the @suroboyobus Instagram account, and followers of the @suroboyobus social media account. While the object of research is the use of social media Instagram @suroboyobus as a city branding media for the Surabaya City Transportation Service. The results of this study are known thatthe presence of the Instagram account @suroboyobus attracts the public’s interest as wellthe use of social media Instagram @suroboyobus is very well managed and has succeeded as an effort to city branding the city of Surabaya as a smart city.
