Abstract

The development of technology makes the way people communicate and seek information is also growing. Online media now not only has the benefit of society as a medium to communicate but also used as an online buying and selling transaction. Various buy and sell transactions that previously can only be done face-to-face directly, now easily can be done through the Internet. This Study aims to find out the consumer behaviour patterns of generation X in online shopping. The problem will be examined using the theory of technological determinations, new media theory and the concept of online shopping, X generation and consumer behaviour. This research uses a qualitative approach. This research sample is the X generation born in 1965-1980 where the 39-54-year-old generation is domiciled in the city of Surabaya. In this research the data collection is done by way of deep interviews to the research informant. The results of this study show that the majority of X generations do online shopping to meet the needs. Generation X seeks online shopping product information by looking at images, prices, descriptions and product ratings. And the majority of generation X does not do alternative evaluation because it already believes and subscribes. Generation X who feels satisfied when doing online shopping gives a positive reciprocation and recombinates to others. But Generation X who feels unsatisfied while doing online shopping gives a negative reciprocation and does not recombinate to others. Keywords: consumer behaviour, X generation, online shopping
