Abstract

An obstacle that is often an obstacle in the cultivation of horticultural crops such as potato plants and carrot plants in Brakseng, East Java is the attack of parasitic nematodes. This nematode attack causes various plant symptoms to become stunted, branched, cracked, stubble, and wounds to the roots and tubers so that it has an impact on the reduced productivity and quality of carrot and potato tubers. This study aims to determine the diversity and population density of parasitic nematodes in carrot and potato plants in Sumber Brantas Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, East Java Province. This research was carried out by survey, namely soil sampling in symptomatic carrot and potato planting fields. Population calculation and identification were carried out at the Plant Health Laboratory of the "Veteran" National Development University of East Java with a morphology and morphometry approach. The results of this study are that parasitic nematodes found in Potato Fields include the genus Meloidogyne, Globodera, Heterodera, Xiphinema, Trichodorus, Radopholus, Tylenchorhynchus, Aphelenchoides, Pratylenchus, Helicotylenchus, and free living nematodes Rhabditis. In carrot fields, similar nematodes were found, but no nematodes of the genus Heterodera were found. Parasitic nematodes of the genus Globodera were most predominantly found in potato fields while in carrot fields the dominant parasitic nematodes were from the genus Pratylenchus. The diversity of parasitic nematode populations in potato fields tends to be higher than in carrot fields. Parasitic nematode populations in potato and carrot fields in general do not show a significant relationship with abiotic factors of pH and soil temperature. The development of parasitic nematodes can also be influenced by other environmental factors, such as soil texture, moisture, soil chemical content, organic matter, and the presence of host plants. Keywords: Plant Parasitic Nematodes, Globodera, Pratylenchus, Potato, Carrots
