Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has encouraged the use of AI Coding Assistants, one of which is GitHub Copilot, in students’ programming activities. However, its use still faces several issues, including suboptimal output quality, results that do not always meet users’ needs, limitations in understanding context, and concerns regarding security, privacy, plagiarism, and dependence on AI. High usage frequency also does not necessarily ensure continued intention to use the technology. Therefore, this thesis aims to analyze the factors influencing the intention to use GitHub Copilot among Informatics and Information Systems students at State Universities (Perguruan Tinggi Negeri/PTN) in Surabaya using a modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The model includes Perceived Trust, Perceived Risk, Dependence Worry, Self-Efficacy, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, and Behavioral Intention. A quantitative approach with purposive sampling was employed. Of the 417 respondents collected, 406 respondents were used as the final sample after data cleaning. Data analysis was conducted using SEM-PLS with SmartPLS 4. The results show that Perceived Trust has a positive and significant effect on Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use. Perceived Risk has a positive and significant effect on Perceived Trust, while Dependence Worry has a positive and significant effect on Perceived Trust and Perceived Risk. Self-Efficacy has a positive and significant effect on Perceived Ease of Use. Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use have a positive and significant effect on Behavioral Intention. Meanwhile, Perceived Risk has no significant effect on Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use, and Self Efficacy has no significant effect on Dependence Worry. Of the 11 indirect effect paths tested, only Self-Efficacy → Perceived Ease of Use → Behavioral Intention is significant.
