Abstract
PT XYZ is a manufacturing company that produces electrical protection devices, one of which is the Circuit Breaker for Equipment (CBE) type X-01. The CBE type X-01 assembly line consists of seven workstations and waste and imbalance in workload distribution are still found. This study aims to map the stages of the assembly process, identify waste, evaluate workload balance, and develop improvement proposals on the CBE type X-01 assembly line. The methods used include Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Value Stream Analysis Tools (VALSAT), Process Activity Mapping (PAM), and Ranked Positional Weight (RPW). The results of the Current Value Stream Mapping show a lead time of 2,206.34 seconds with a Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) of 8.9%. Based on the identification of seven wastes, Excessive Transportation, Waiting, Excessive Inventory, and Defects were identified in actual conditions, while Excessive Processing and Unnecessary Motion were not identified. Overproduction was not found because the company implemented a Make to Order (MTO) system. The results of the respondents' assessment showed that Excessive Transportation had the highest average score of 2.80. Line balancing analysis in the existing condition showed 7 workstations and 7 operators with a Line Efficiency of 61%, Balance Delay of 39%, Idle Time of 198.46 seconds, and Smoothness Index of 93.79 seconds. This condition indicates an imbalance in the distribution of workload between workstations. Redistribution of work elements using the RPW method resulted in 10 workstations with a maximum cycle time of 33.88 seconds, which is still below the takt time of 34.80 seconds. The results of the redistribution increased Line Efficiency to 89%, while Balance Delay decreased to 14%, Idle Time to 33.91 seconds, and Smoothness Index to 14.32 seconds. In the proposed condition, the Riveting and Laser Marking processes were maintained as a series of processes that were not split due to machine constraints. Thus, the application of the RPW method produces a more balanced workload distribution while still considering the precedence relationship, takt time limits, process sequences, and constraints on the CBE type X-01 assembly line
