Abstract
The reliance on inorganic nutrients in hydroponic cultivation necessitates more economical and eco-friendly alternatives, such as the utilization of rice wash water waste. This study aims to determine the interaction and independent effects of adding rice wash water and varying AB Mix concentrations on the growth and yield of water spinach (Ipomoea reptans) in a wick hydroponic system. The research was conducted in Gubeng District, Surabaya City, East Java, from July to September 2025, using a two-factor factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) involving water type (plain water, rice wash water 50 ml/L, and rice wash water 70 ml/L) and AB Mix concentrations (1200, 1300, 1400, and 1500 ppm). The analysis revealed a significant interaction on stem diameter, with optimal results achieved by the combination of 70 ml/L rice wash water and 1500 ppm AB Mix. Independently, the 70 ml/L rice wash water treatment significantly improved all growth and yield parameters. The 1500 ppm AB Mix concentration stimulated the highest vegetative growth; however, the 1300–1400 ppm level was sufficient to maximize biomass. In conclusion, the utilization of rice wash water effectively increases the efficiency of commercial nutrient usage in hydroponic cultivation.
