Abstract

The Field Work Practice at PT Pertamina EP Cepu XYZ-Field aims to provide students with hands-on experience in understanding the application of chemical industrial processes, particularly in natural gas processing and utility systems. The focus of this activity is the Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGRU), which removes hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) from natural gas through a process of solvent absorption and regeneration. An analysis was conducted to examine the effects of gas capacity and lean solvent flow rate on steam demand in the reboiler, which serves as the energy source for the solvent regeneration process. The results of the analysis indicate that an increase in gas capacity leads to a higher H₂S and CO₂ absorption load, thereby increasing the solvent regeneration load and steam demand in the reboiler. These conditions demonstrate that energy consumption in the AGRU is significantly influenced by changes in operating conditions. Therefore, monitoring of operating parameters, control of the solvent flow rate, and periodic maintenance of the reboiler are necessary to maintain process efficiency and stable unit performance. This Field Work Practice provided an understanding of the relationship between gas processing capacity, energy requirements, and AGRU performance as a basis for optimizing operations at gas processing facilities.
