Abstract
A Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate plant will be established in the Maspion Industrial Estate, located in Manyar, Gresik, East Java, Indonesia. The main raw materials are Copper Oxide (CuO) and Sulfuric Acid (H₂SO₄). The production process consists of four main stages. The first stage is raw material preparation, in which concentrated Sulfuric Acid is diluted from 98 wt% to 30 wt%. The second stage is the reaction between Copper Oxide and Sulfuric Acid in a stirred tank reactor, producing Copper Sulfate and water at an operating temperature of 60°C and a pressure of 1 atm, with a reaction conversion of 99%. The third stage is product purification. The reaction mixture is fed to a centrifuge to separate impurities from the filtrate. The filtrate is then concentrated in an evaporator before being sent to a crystallizer to produce Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate crystals. The crystallizer slurry is subsequently transferred to another centrifuge to separate the crystals from the mother liquor. The mother liquor is recycled back to the evaporator, while the wet Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate crystals are fed to a rotary dryer for drying. The hot air leaving the dryer carries a small amount of entrained crystals, which are recovered in a cyclone. The dried product from the rotary dryer and the recovered crystals from the cyclone are then cooled using a cooling conveyor. The fourth stage is product handling and packaging. The cooled Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate crystals are conveyed to a storage silo before being sent to the packaging unit for packing and subsequent storage in the warehouse.
