Abstract
PT XYZ is a national shipbuilding company currently undertaking the construction project of the 163 M Landing Platform Dock (LPD). During the painting processes of the LPD 163 M ship blocks, several types of waste were identified that affected project efficiency, including painting defects such as sagging and paint drops that resulted in rework, prolonged paint drying time, and lengthy block transfer processes. This study aims to identify and analyze dominant wastes, determine the root causes of waste and propose improvement recommendations, as well as minimize lead time. The research employs Lean Manufacturing, Fishbone Diagram, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) approaches. The Current State Mapping results indicate an initial lead time of 9,480 minutes, with Value Added (VA) activities accounting for 26.58%, Non-Value Added (NVA) activities accounting for 12.03%, and Necessary Non-Value Added (NNVA) activities accounting for 61.39%. The waste identification questionnaire results reveal four dominant wastes, namely defect, overprocessing, waiting, and transportation, with scores of 3.4, 3.4, 3.0, and 2.8, respectively. The VALSAT analysis identifies Process Activity Mapping (PAM) as the selected tool with the highest weight score of 114.2. Fishbone Diagram analysis reveals root causes originating from the factors of Man, Machine, Method, Material, and Environment. The Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) results indicate that transportation has the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN) of 96, followed by overprocessing with a score of 90, defect with a score of 72, and waiting with a score of 36. The proposed improvements developed through Future State Mapping demonstrate a lead time reduction of 13.3%, from 9,480 minutes to 8,220 minutes.
