Abstract
The competitive labor market has created challenges for fresh graduates in obtaining employment due to the increasing demand for professional experience and portfolios during the early stage of career transition. This condition encourages fresh graduates to utilize LinkedIn to present their skills and experiences to professional audiences. This study aims to explain the impression management practices conducted by fresh graduates on LinkedIn through Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical perspective. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Five informants were selected through purposive sampling with the criteria of fresh graduates from the 2024–2026 cohorts who actively use LinkedIn and have experienced responses from professional audiences. Data were collected through online observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that fresh graduates perform impression management through the management of professional attributes, including appearance and manner, which are adjusted to their respective career goals. These practices are supported by backstage processes such as research, evaluation, the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and information filtering. This study finds that impression management on LinkedIn occurs dynamically through a cycle of backstage, front stage, and audience responses, where these responses become a basis for evaluation in the negotiation of professional identity.
