Abstract
The development of social media has transformed the way society accesses, understands, and interprets history through digital content. One example is heritage house content on TikTok, which utilizes visuals to bring history back to life for the public. This study aims to understand how digital cultural practices of heritage house content on the TikTok account @maria.oldiest are constructed and negotiated through visuals and audience responses on TikTok. This research employs a qualitative method with Christine Hine's (2000) virtual ethnography approach and a visual culture perspective. Data collection was conducted through observation of six heritage house contents on the TikTok account @maria.oldiest, analysis of audience comments, visual documentation, and in-depth interviews with informants. The results of the study show that the visual construction of heritage houses is built through architectural identity, color, and shooting techniques that communicate historical identity, grandeur, sturdiness, authenticity, uniqueness, and historical experience. The negotiation of meaning reveals that audiences interpret heritage houses as symbols of past grandeur, traces of history, cultural heritage that needs to be preserved, educational media for history, representations of building strength, and as media capable of reviving history through visuals. Digital cultural practices indicate that TikTok is not only a medium for disseminating historical information, but also a digital cultural space that allows history to be represented, reinterpreted, and reproduced through digital activities. Thus, history is no longer understood as information attached to physical buildings, but becomes a digital cultural experience constructed through visual communication and audience participation on social media.
