Abstract
The #Ngortis hashtag emerged as a hybrid term among TikTok fans of the Boy Group CORTIS in late 2025, functioning as a participatory cultural practice that developed into a marker of collective identity before the official fandom name COER was announced on November 25, 2025. Addressing how this digital discourse constructed the community's social identity, this study employed Digital Discourse Analysis by Jones, Chik, and Hafner (2015)—examining four components: text, context, action and interaction, and ideology and power—combined with Social Identity Theory and the Participatory Culture framework. The corpus comprised 5 TikTok videos from five accounts (@seagulnoona, @your_egirl7, @azizahmiraaa, @yazri0_0, and @_cortis180825) along with their comment sections, collected during the October–November 2025 period. Findings showed that identity construction unfolded through two causal stages: an initial stage of social categorization through the text and context components, which formed in-group and out-group boundaries from the bottom up amid the absence of an official identity reference, followed by a deepening stage of social identification and comparison through the action-interaction and ideology-power components, which strengthened the community's emotional attachment. This construction culminated in an adaptive integration narrative, in which the official COER identity was absorbed into the pre-existing organic #Ngortis identity framework, becoming a marker of affective depth rather than a form of resistance toward the agency
