Abstract
The development of social media has encouraged the emergence of various digital cultural practices within fandom communities, including the Carat community on the TikTok account @seventeen17_official. This study aims to describe the digital cultural practices of the Carat community on the TikTok account @seventeen17_official. This study used a qualitative approach with a netnographic method. The data were collected through non-participant observation, documentation, and literature review. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that the digital cultural practices of the Carat community were reflected through the use of fandom language, the utilization of visual features, and interactions among fans in the comment section. Fandom language included fandom-specific terms, code-switching, nicknames, inside jokes, and hyperbolic expressions that functioned as markers of community identity. The use of visual features was demonstrated through emojis, image replies, and the combination of text and visual elements to reinforce meaning. Interactions among fans were reflected in conversations, experience sharing, information exchange, and collective emotional expressions that strengthened social relationships within the community. The findings also showed that these practices reflected the characteristics of participatory culture proposed by Jenkins, including relatively low barriers to participation, strong support for creating and sharing one's creations, informal mentorship, members' belief that their contributions matter, and social connections among community members. These findings indicated that the TikTok account @seventeen17_official functioned as a participatory space where Carat members collectively created, maintained, and developed their communication culture in the digital environment.
