Abstract
This project was undertaken to provide a comprehensive solution for business analysis needs within the DVD rental industry. The development of a structured data mart using a star schema approach, data transformation via Pentaho Data Integration (PDI), and data storage in PostgreSQL has made the analysis process more efficient and accurate. The resulting interactive dashboards assist management in understanding overall business performance. The staging area is where data extraction begins, and it serves as the stage for data transformation and cleansing. The data warehouse design follows a star schema approach, which simplifies SQL queries and supports rapid analysis of large datasets. A data mart is a specialized database designed to facilitate the analysis of specific business areas. A dashboard provides a visual representation of available datasets. Insights from the executive summary indicate that China is a leading contributor to both revenue and rental volume. To analyze film categories in greater depth, stakeholders can utilize the Genre Analysis dashboard. The project culminates in three interconnected interactive dashboards: the first presents an executive summary; the second focuses on country-based analysis; and the third provides a genre analysis that evaluates film category performance based on revenue and rental volume. Through these dashboards, users gain clear, structured insights into the performance of the DVD rental business.
