Abstract
The stand-up comedy show ‘Mens Rea’ by Pandji Pragiwaksono drew public attention and escalated into an alleged religious blasphemy case, which was subsequently reported to the police. This study aims to analyze how Detik.com and Kompas.com framed the news coverage regarding the alleged religious blasphemy by Pandji Pragiwaksono in his stand-up comedy show ‘Mens Rea’. Utilizing Robert N. Entman’s framing model with a descriptive qualitative approach, the textual construction was dissected based on four main elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and treatment recommendations. The results of the study indicate that Detik.com framed the issue as a tense and ongoing legal conflict, focusing predominantly on police reports, examination durations, and formal legal procedures. Conversely, Kompas.com defined the case as a common social misunderstanding that required a peaceful resolution, highlighting chronological clarifications and the right to freedom of expression. This framing divergence demonstrates the differing perspectives of the two media outlets in selecting and emphasizing information, thereby producing different constructions of reality for the same event.
