Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of agricultural extension workers and its relationship with the development of the Sumbersari Farmer Group in Terik Village, Krian District, Sidoarjo Regency. Agricultural extension workers play an important role in enhancing farmers’ capacity through their functions as educators, innovators, facilitators, consultants, and motivators. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research site was selected purposively. Respondents consisted of 75 members of the Sumbersari Farmer Group selected through a census method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Data analysis utilized the Likert Scale to measure the level of extension workers’ roles and Spearman Rank Correlation to examine the relationship between variables. The results indicated that the role of agricultural extension workers was categorized as very high, with a percentage score of 89%. Extension workers effectively performed their educational, innovative, facilitative, consultative, and motivational functions. These roles contributed to improving farmers’ knowledge, skills, group cooperation, and farming business development. The Spearman Rank Correlation test revealed that all dimensions of extension workers’ roles had positive and significant relationships with farmer group development, covering both group cooperation and farming business development. The research findings indicate that improvements in the quality of extension workers' roles are associated with the strengthening and development of farmer groups.
