Abstract
Post-pandemic economic dynamics require companies to focus not only on profit generation but also on efforts to enhance corporate value through strengthened governance and the implementation of social responsibility. However, trends in the capital market indicate that profit growth does not always align with market valuation, and previous research on the impact of GCG and CSR on corporate value has yielded inconsistent findings. Therefore, this study aims to comprehensively examine and analyze the influence of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on corporate value both directly and indirectly using profitability as a mediating variable for companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2023-2025 period. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach. The study population comprises all companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), with the sample determined using purposive sampling, resulting in 115 companies with a total of 345 observation units (firm-years). The GCG variable was measured using the Audit Committee (AC) and Institutional Ownership (IO) proxies; CSR was measured based on four aspects as outlined in SEOJK No. 16/SEOJK.04/2021; profitability was proxied by Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE); and firm value was measured by Price-to-Book Value (PBV). Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS software. Based on the results of the evaluation of the outer model, the indicators of KA, ROA, and the economic aspect of CSR were eliminated because they did not meet the validity test criteria. The results of the hypothesis testing on the inner model show that GCG, through institutional ownership, has a significant positive effect on profitability (ROE), while CSR has no effect on profitability. Furthermore, GCG was not found to have an effect on firm value, while CSR and profitability had a significant positive effect on firm value. The results of the mediation test showed that profitability mediates the effect of GCG on firm value but does not mediate the effect of CSR on firm value. Theoretically, these findings enrich the discourse on sustainability accounting and confirm the relevance of Agency Theory and Signaling Theory. The practical implications of this study highlight the need for companies to optimally manage their governance mechanisms and enhance the transparency of disclosures regarding economic, environmental, and social aspects in order to elicit positive reactions from stakeholders, which will ultimately lead to improved financial performance and corporate value in the capital markets.
