Abstract
Doom spending is a form of excessive spending behavior driven by psychological factors, such as stress and anxiety. These spending decisions are motivated by the desire to achieve emotional satisfaction and relieve stress. Easy access to financial services, as well as the vulnerability of private-sector workers to financial pressure, further reinforce the tendency toward doom spending. Meanwhile, financial attitudes play a role in shaping how individuals manage and control their financial decisions. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of financial stress, financial inclusion, and financial attitudes on doom spending, as well as the role of financial literacy as a moderating variable among private-sector workers. This study employs a quantitative approach, using a questionnaire to collect data from private-sector workers in Indonesia. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, with the following criteria for respondents: private-sector workers aged 21–40 who independently manage their personal finances. A total of 210 data points were collected and analyzed using the PLS-SEM technique with the assistance of SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results of the study indicate that financial stress and financial inclusion have a significant positive effect on doom spending. On the other hand, financial attitudes show a non-significant negative effect on doom spending. Furthermore, financial literacy does not moderate the effects of financial stress, financial inclusion, and financial attitudes on doom spending.
