Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and e-commerce discounts on online shopping consumptive behavior on Shopee, with financial literacy serving as a moderating variable among students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UPN "Veteran" East Java. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method and analyzed the data through Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The results indicate that FoMO and e-commerce discounts have a positive and significant effect on online shopping consumptive behavior. These findings suggest that the fear of missing out on trends and the attractiveness of promotional discounts encourage students to make more consumptive purchasing decisions. However, financial literacy was not found to moderate the relationship between either FoMO or e-commerce discounts and consumptive behavior. This indicates that the students' level of financial literacy is not sufficiently strong to mitigate the influence of psychological factors and promotional incentives on their purchasing decisions.
