Abstract
The heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) is a key component of a combined-cyclepower plant, functioning to utilize the exhaust gas from the gas turbine to produce steam as the working fluid. HRSG efficiency is influenced by variations in gas turbine load; however, long-term operation leads to efficiency degradation, necessitating an overhaul to restore the HRSG to its design condition. Although previous studies have addressed HRSG efficiency, comprehensive analyses of the effects of gas turbine load variations on HRSG efficiency under pre- and postoverhaul conditions remain limited. Therefore, this study aims to enhance understanding of the influence of these two factors on HRSG performance. The objectives are to analyze the HRSG thermal efficiency, the high-pressure (HP) system efficiency, the low-pressure (LP) system efficiency, and the Thermal conductance at three gas turbine load variations. A comparative quantitative method was employed using data collected before and after the overhaul. The results indicate that HRSG efficiency increases with rising turbine load under both operating conditions, from 78.46% (130 MW) to 80.67% (230 MW) before overhaul, and from 79.70% to 80.98% after overhaul, with diminishing increments at higher loads due to the dominance of fouling resistance at low loads. The HP system efficiency exhibits a greater increase post-overhaul, with the highest difference of 2.48% at 130 MW, whereas the LP system shows a smaller and inconsistent increase ranging from 0.11% to 0.27% due to thermal shielding effects from the HP system. The UA value of the HP system increased from 1,855.0 W/°K to 2,471.5 W/°K before overhaul, and from 1,894.9 W/°K to 2,537.1 W/°K after overhaul. The correlation coefficient between load and HRSG efficiency was 0.960 before overhaul and 0.947 after overhaul. These findings demonstrate that overhaul effectively restores the heat transfer capacity of the HRSG and confirm that increasing gas turbine load is directly proportional to HRSG efficiency, approaching the original design condition
