Abstract

This study aims to analyze the basic sector, changes in the basic sector, and the influence of the basic sector on economic growth in Gresik Regency for the period 2012–2024. The study uses a quantitative approach with secondary data in the form of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at Constant Prices (ADHK) according to 17 business fields obtained from the Central Statistics Agency. The analytical method used is the Location Quotient (LQ) to identify the basic sector and multiple linear regression to test the influence of the basic sector on economic growth. The results of the LQ analysis indicate that the mining and quarrying sector, the manufacturing industry, and the electricity and gas supply are the basic sectors in Gresik Regency because they have an LQ value of more than one. However, the regression results show that these three sectors do not have a significant effect on the economic growth of Gresik Regency. This condition indicates that despite having a comparative advantage and a large contribution to GRDP, the characteristics of the sector which tends to be capital intensive, low in labor absorption, and economic benefits that have not been optimally distributed cause its influence on regional economic growth to be insignificant. The results of this study are expected to be used as consideration in the formulation of more effective and sustainable regional economic development policies.
