Abstract

This study examines participatory culture within the Manchester United fandom on platform X through the account @utdfocusid. Employing a qualitative approach with virtual ethnography, data were collected through virtual observation across three primary match periods and supplementary content, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings show that @utdfocusid enacts all four dimensions of Participatory Culture. Afiliasi through memes and hashtags as collective identity markers, Ekspresi through sarcasm and emoticons as community-specific emotional communication, Sirkulasi through live-tweeting and multi-directional interactions that recreate shared virtual spectatorship, and Pemecahan Masalah Kolaboratif through tactical discussions and historical threads that demonstrate the community's capacity for collective knowledge production. These findings confirm that digital fandom operates as a complex communication ecosystem where collective identity, solidarity, and shared knowledge are actively and continuously constructed
