Abstract
A Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate plant, which produces the compound from magnesium oxide and sulfuric acid via a neutralization process, will be established in the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik, East Java, Indonesia. The primary raw materials are Magnesium Oxide (MgO) and Sulfuric Acid (H₂SO₄). The production process for Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate consists of three stages. The first stage is the raw material pre-treatment stage, where the Sulfuric Acid is first diluted from a 98% concentration to a 28% concentration. The second stage is the core stage, where the neutralization process between Magnesium Oxide and Sulfuric Acid occurs, forming Magnesium Sulfate and water. This reaction is carried out with a 98% conversion rate. Unreacted Magnesium Oxide and SiO2, which is an impurity in MgO, are separated from the MgSO4 solution. The third stage is the purification process, where the concentration of Magnesium Sulfate is increased again using an evaporator. This results in the formation of Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate crystals in the crystallizer, which are then separated from the mother liquor using a centrifuge. The crystals are subsequently dried using a rotary dryer and cooled again via a cooling conveyor to stabilize the product’s temperature. Once the product temperature is stable, the magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is temporarily stored in a silo before being packaged and stored in the MgSO₄·7H₂O storage warehouse.
